The Research Problem. To prepare for this assignment, read Bringing Science to Life: NINR Strategic Plan. From this strategic plan, NINR has identified theme categories that delineate priorities for nursing research.

These theme categories include the following:
• Symptom Science: Promoting Personalized Health Strategies
• Wellness: Promoting Health and Preventing Illness
• Self-Management: Improving Quality of Life for Individuals with Chronic Illness
• End-of-Life and Palliative Care: The Science of Compassion

Next, visit the National Institute of Nursing Research’s Implementing NINR’s Strategic Plan: Key Themes web page. A brief description of the theme and examples of funded research are provided. As you review, think of the priority issue that you believe needs further investigation in your clinical practice, which you have selected as the basis of your Research Project assignment.

Complete the tutorial: Nursing Research to learn how to conduct research on the significance of the problem to nursing. Then, formulate a problem statement and a research question, and identify relevant research variables. Directions follow.
Develop a paper to account for the following items:
• Identify the theme category (problem) you selected from the NINR website as a foundation for your research proposal.
• Explain the background of the problem and relevance to nursing practice. Provide your rationale for this selection.
• Develop a problem statement and research question.
• Identify research variables.
• Discuss the significance of the problem to the profession of nursing.

The Research Problem paper
• Must be three to four double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style. For assistance, visit the Ashford Writing Center’s APA Essay Checklist for Students.
• Must include a title page with the following:
o Title of paper
 For further assistance with the formatting and the title page, please refer to the Formatting Instructions for MS Word 2013.
o Student’s name
o Course name and number
o Instructor’s name
o Date submitted
• Must include an introduction and conclusion paragraph. Your introduction paragraph needs to end with a clear thesis statement that indicates the purpose of your paper. For assistance on writing introductions and conclusions as well as thesis statements, please refer to the Ashford Writing Center resources.
• Must use at least two scholarly sources in addition to the course text.
o The Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor. Your instructor has the final say about the appropriateness of a specific source for a particular assignment. The Integrating Research tutorial will offer further assistance on including supporting information and reasoning.
• Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s In-Text Citation Guide.
• Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style.
