An experimental design has a vivid hypothesis and is mainly employed in studies whose objective is to confirm or discredit a theory. In this design, the independent variable can be manipulated, and setting controlled, in a bid to illustrate a causal relationship (Parahoo, 2014).. Types of experimental research designs include Pre-experimental designs, true experimental designs, and quasi-experimental designs.
- Nonexperimental research design.
In this type of research design, predictor variables are not manipulated, and setting cannot altered. Hence, the choice of sample to include in investigation reflects the meaning, validity and generalizability of research findings.

Under this theory, the target population is the entire group of people with a specific condition that is of interest to the reseach. For instance, people with, or who in the past had malaria would befit the target population. However, since conducting a research employing the target population would be impossible the researcher employs the sampling theory to select an adequate representative sample of this population. The resultant selection will thus have fewer individuals under study but who are adequate for generalization of the results (Holloway, & Galvin, 2016).
Discuss generalizability as it applies to nursing research.
In nursing, generalizability denotes the use of results from a small group in assumption that the outcomes from the group reflect the target (Parahoo, 2014). This is possible when the accessible group is adequate to denotes target population as derived from the sampling theory.
