Introduction
Welcome to Week Five. In our final week together, you will look at your community’s diverse population. You will consider how a person’s culture and/or ethnicity influence health-care decisions and how those decisions are based on the beliefs, traditions, and experiences of the culture. Whether a patient is of an African/Black American, Latino, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American/Alaska Native, or White culture, health-care decisions are based on their experiences. As we have learned throughout previous weeks, it is our role as nurses to ensure we consider the impact of traditions and beliefs in the provision of care to patients.
