There are two areas in nursing practice in which evidence-based practice has improved patient outcomes. The first area is infection control. When accessing a medical facility owing to an illness, the last thing that a patient would want is to get a facility-acquired infection. In this case, it is noted that nurses can apply evidence-based infection control strategies to ensure that patient do not get such infections. Some of these strategies include disinfecting and washing hands, applying barrier precautions, wearing protective clothing, and keeping the environment clean. Nurses now understand that although the strategies applied in infection control adds to their responsibilities, it is worth the effort by avoiding preventable infections (Patterson, 2015). The second area is blood administration and intravenous catheter use. evidence-based practice and Nursing research Evidence-based practice suggests that nurses should use 19-gauge or smaller catheters to ensure the patients’ comfort without reducing its efficiency. In fact, evidence from Stupnyckj et al. (2014) shows that a catheter with a gauge smaller than 20 can safely be used among adult patients to transfuse blood. In this respect, evidence-based practice has improved infection control and intravenous catheter use in nursing practice.

The interaction between patients and nurses is an important factor in ensuring that high-quality medical services are offered leading to patients reporting improved health and satisfaction. Still, it is important to note that interaction is a complex, dynamic, multi-factorial and multi-dimensional communication phenomenon. Having good interactions between the patients and nurses is an important aspect of care since it has a profound effect on how the patient perceives care outcome and quality, and improves the relationship between the two parties. In fact, it is undeniable that applying operative communication skills would allow nurses to effectively provide medical care in additional to other positive outcomes from patients that include cooperation, compliance, acceptance, and satisfaction. Despite this awareness, poor patient-nurse interactions still occur and is blamed on nurses lacking effective communication skills (Nilsen et al., 2014; Norouzinia et al., 2016). As such, there is need for evidence to show whether nurses acquiring effective communication skills would improve their interactions with patients. evidence-based practice and Nursing research.
