The symptoms and signs that I associate with an abstract concept in my daily professional practice include anxiety. This is a true indicator of what the patient is actually experiencing because illness and pain are associated with stress that brings anxiety because patients are anxious about their recovery while patients with terminal illness may be anxious about their chances of surviving (Borimnejad et al, 2017). For example, according to Bennett et al (2017) manifestations of concept of anxiety may include the patient shaking, being overly quiet, crying, compulsive eating, failure to eat, as well as the patient refusing to eat.

The role of empirical assessment in confirmation and validating empiric knowledge in regard to anxiety as the abstract concept is to identify the level of worry and anxiety patients are experiencing. This is because behaviors associated with anxiety may not always be consistent with the theoretic concept. anxiety is an abstract concept and hence conveys something already in existence, it is important to identify anxiety, understand how it works, and establish how individuals experience anxiety differently.  Therefore, the nurse should draw from their experience regarding anxiety in order to gauge empiric behaviors one has identified (Bennett et al, 2017).

There are tools available to assess the anxiety concept using empiric indicators such as crying, worrying, loss of appetite, fear of impending doom, etc. Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) is a tool that can be used to assess anxiety in patients (Ju et al, 2018) confirming and validating empiric knowledge essay.
