Nursing Care, Health Conditions and Patient Satisfaction: Concept Analyses

The purpose of this paper is to report, clarify and analyze patient satisfaction with the nursing care that they have received and the factors that affect their satisfaction. Patient satisfaction is viewed as one of the most important factors to determine quality of care. This concept analysis aims to determine how the satisfaction of patients with serious conditions differs from the satisfaction of patients that are not seriously ill. There are many studies that have been conducted in order to improve patient care and how healthcare providers can respond better to a patient’s individual needs and preferences. The goal of every healthcare organization is to improve their patient care and have better clinical outcomes that will guarantee better patient satisfaction. The goal of this paper is to bring better understanding of patient’s satisfaction in combination with their health condition, healthcare experience and overall patient care received during their hospital stay. The aim of this analyses is to clarify and “to classify patients’ illness levels, from which it is possible to identify more seriously ill and less seriously ill patients” (Otani, Waterman and Reuters, 2012, p. 278), and possible outcomes. Walker and Avant’s (1995) concept analysis guidelines are used to direct this paper. Identifying the Attributes of the Concept of Patient Satisfaction Nursing care is designed to meet all needs and expectations of the patient in time when is needed. “Patient expectations of care and attitudes greatly contribute to satisfaction; other psychosocial factors, including pain and depression, are also known to contribute to patient satisfaction scores” (Morris, Jahangir and Sethi, 2013)….
