CBT and REBT

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) entails one -on-one interaction with clients. Psychiatrists analyze patients’ views and advise them to change their way of thinking in order to achieve stable mental states (Fairburn et al., 2015). Besides, rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) entails convincing clients to identify, evaluate, dispute and act against his/her beliefs which bring about disturbances (David, D. (2015). CBT and REBT are useful approaches with similar and dissimilar provisions.

Similarities

CBT and REBT are similar in that they require the client to identify the cause of their problems and situations. Patients need to ascertain the root of their depressions and work towards correcting the situations Cognitive behavioral therapy vs emotional behavioral therapy sample essay. Loerinc et al. (2015) state the two theories are instruction-based, since psychologists advise the clients on refraining from certain behaviors or models of thinking.  The approaches are time-limited and directive, as the psychiatrists advise on strategies that would guarantee outcomes if implemented effectively.

Differences

CBT approaches are mind-oriented, since they only direct the client to modify their thinking criterion on a limited basis. REBT aims at identifying the root cause that leads to decision making, and advises on an in depth critical evaluation of situations before deriving a decision (Şoflău, & David, 2017). It teaches individuals on effective assertiveness and the ability to solve problems.  Besides, Tulbure et al. (2015) state that the CBT approach aims at bolstering a client’s mental stability by reinforcing their positive qualities. The REBT approach teaches clients on accepting difficult situations and developing newer behaviors to ensure mental stability.

Opinion

In my opinion, I would employ the REBT approach, since it aims at identifying the root cause of discomfort and mental problems in a client. This way, one can recommend on insightful thinking before making a decision. In the long run, the client is guaranteed of a table mental state.
