Article 1: Waggoner, C. (2013). Cyber Bullying: The public school response. Administrative Issues Journal 3(3), 43-46. Retrieved from http://dc.swosu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1221&context=aij

Waggoner (2013) explores the concept of cyberbullying and what constitutes consent. In this case, the article notes that any form of repeated ridicule, mistreatment or harassment through online communication platforms should be construed as cyberbullying irrespective of whether there is an element of consent from the victim. In fact, the author notes that unlike physical bullying, cyberbullying has more serious consequences since the victim can be targeted at any time of the day and place irrespective of physical distance. Based on the pervasive nature of cyberbullying that turns the issue of consent irrelevant, the article advances a plea that a more effective solution is necessary to curb cyberbullying (Waggoner, 2013).

Article 2: Guan, N. C., Kanagasundram, S., Ann, Y. H., Hui, T. L. & Mun, T. K. (2016). Cyber bullying – a new social menace. ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry, 17(1), 104-115. Retrieved from http://www.aseanjournalofpsychiatry.org/index.php/aseanjournalofpsychiatry/article/viewFile/362/239

Guan et al. (2016) mentions that cyberbullying is distinctive in its use of online platforms as tools. In fact, the article mentions that advances in communication technology have facilitated cyberbullying. Additionally, the authors affirm that its prevalence ranges from 30% to 55% with equal opportunities for both boys and girls to be either victims or perpetrators although victims are typically younger while perpetrators are older Social Movements Example Essay. Based on the high prevalence rate for cyberbullying, the article recommends that action be taken as a priority to curb the practice.

Conclusion

Based on information presented in the two articles, there is need for cyberbullying to be addressed as a priority. Following that, there is a need for more focus on improving awareness about the issue, offering help to both victims and perpetrators, and engaging local community members to develop localized solutions. For cyber bullying to be effectively addressed, there is a need to understand that it is distinct from traditional bullying with the focus being on increasing awareness, offering help and engaging community members. Additionally, access to online platforms should be supervised and limited so that there is limited interaction between victims and perpetrators and opportunities for cyberbullying are limited Social Movements Example Essay.
